Ganymedes LGBT Studentenvereniging Groningen

Getting actively involved

Ganymedes is still very new and is constantly growing and improving. Depending on your spare time, interests, motivation and what you want to get out of your involvement, there are a number of things you can do beyond being an ordinary member of Ganymedes. Active participation in a student association can give an alternative perspective on student life, enhance your skill set and, depending on your career-choice improve your curriculum vitae. If you’re interested in one of the positions or would just like to know more, contact the President.

The executive positions require the most amount of time and dedication (about eight hours or so per week, although it really depends on how much you want to put into it) whilst the non-executive positions could involve as little as half an hour per week.

The Ganymedes Executive Committee meet every so often to discuss day-to-day operations, organise spectacular activities, tackle problems and approve expenditure etc.. If you’re interested in attending one of these meetings, contact the Secretary in advance to determine the location.

Vacant positions

Executive positions

Secretary

The main secretarial tasks are handing most incoming enquiries from outside parties (usually potential members), taking minutes during meetings and writing the weekly announcement e-mails.

Non-executive positions

Activities Committee

Ganymedes activities are the cornerstone of the association. Ganymedes is now forming an Activities Committee to enable quicker and more thorough organisation of activities – if you want to be involved in thinking up, organising and coordinating fab events (fun or serious or both), join the Activities Committee!

Representatives

The following representative positions are open to students who self-define as a member of the group. As a representative, you act as an alternative point of contact for anyone who is interested in your subgroup and you represent your subgroup to Ganymedes Executive Committee, ensuring that their respective needs are met.

  • Bisexual Representative
  • Students with Disabilities Representative

Representative positions for other subgroups can be added to the Constitution, should the need arise.

Postering team

Groningen is a big place and the Hanze and RUG buildings are spread far and wide. In order to cover all buildings efficiently, we ask volunteers to help cover buildings which they visit frequently (e.g. the buildings which house their respective faculties). It’s fine if we have more than one volunteer covering a single building (this just means less downtime when/if our posters are removed for some reason).

Volunteers will be given a supply of posters to place on posterboards in their buildings. Some buildings require authorisation to be stamped onto posters while others don’t. This map shows all the RUG and Hanze buildings that require postering and gives advice regarding each building. Zoom in and click on the coloured region (not the balloon-shape markers) for the advice.

Take care to get permission from the reception if it’s needed and beware that some noticeboards are only intended for posters related to a particular educational department.

If you would like to volunteer to cover a region or if you notice that any part of the map is wrong, or buildings are missing etc, contact the Publicity Officer.
